  11. A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM FATHER SCSECS

  13. Doubtless some of you have found under your tree, in your stocking, or in
  14. some similar yuletide-season receptacle a gift in the form of what my dear
  15. California mother, who could never decide what to buy for people, liked to
  16. call "a cash remembrance."  Are you baffled about what to do with your
  17. little solstice windfall?  Why not consider using your augmented fortune to
  18. attend the SCSECS convention (March 11-14, 1993) here in Baton Rouge?  There
  19. could be no better way to brighten your holiday than by planning for a happy
  20. springtime event.  Basketball star Magic Johnson has recently commented that
  21. "the greatest players at any given time are the greatest players of all time."
  22. Under an analogous definition, SCSECS 1993 is certain to be the greatest
  23. greatest convention of all the eons!  Printed programs and pre-registration
  24. materials for the meeting will be available by mid-January.  67 sessions!

  26. While you're thinking about SCSECS, think about using this extraordinary
  27. event to advance your own commercial reputations.  The grand book exhibition
  28. will be conducted by Scholars' Choice, which will have an unusually large
  29. and attractive exhibit space in the hotel "Steamboat" room (featuring a
  30. gargantuan ship's wheel).  If you'd like to have your book or other saleable
  31. publication displayed, please give the Scholars' Choosers a call.  Ring
  32. directory assistance for area code 716, then kindly request the telephone
  33. number of Scholars' Choice (the elves forgot to leave me a telephone directory
  34. this morning).  An "800" toll-free number may also be available.  Or check
  35. one of your Scholars' Choice order forms.  Please note that Scholars' Choice
  36. is a general retailer as well as a bookseller.  If you have something else that
  37. you think SCSECSians would like to purchase, why not give Scholars' Choice
  38. the franchise?  If you're having trouble getting a distributor for that
  39. day-glo Dr. Johnson t-shirt that you've designed or that double compact
  40. disk featuring your own readings of Augustan verse, why not make Scholars'
  41. Choice your vendor?
