  11. Following on from the "you can change your password without and checks using
  12. MUSER fiasco" comes the new VINES security breach!

  14. Why bother with passwords at all ..........

  16. Here's what you do . . .
  17.  
  18.   Find a Macintosh (1.2 or 1.3b6 software)
  19.  
  20.   If it is already logged in, select the Chooser and click on logout.
  21.  
  22.   Now you are logged out, click on login  this will present you with a login
  23.   screen complete with the name of the user already thoughtfully typed in for
  24.   you.
  25.  
  26.   Randomly type a few characters on the keyboard, and press return.
  27.  
  28.   Wait a few seconds for VINES to inform you that you are logged in.
  29.  
  30.   This is fully repeatable!

  32. I trust that all you fellow system administators sleep well over Christmas,
  33. knowing that your PHYSICAL access is secure!
  34.  
  35. Fellow Banyan administrators, please try to repeat this, and plague Banyan
  36. fast!  This is already common knowledge here and MUST be fixed ASAP before it
  37. becomes abused, it could already be affecting you, without you realising it.
  38. The UK is virtually shut down until the 4th Jan, this was reported on the 18th
  39. and I have had no reponse to date!   Maybe in the States you will have better
  40. luck!
