  33. Goals: First, to provide a forum for communication of scientific and 
  34. technical issues  associated with the analysis, management, and 
  35. visualization of cellular information at the molecular level.  
  36. COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY will accept papers on: algorithms, 
  37. genomics; mathematical modeling and simulation of biological 
  38. processes; new methods for sequence analysis, including, for example, 
  39. parallel methods; design and implementation of biological databases; 
  40. biological expert system design and use; reasoning by analogy; 
  41. hypothesis formation and testing by machine; and, information 
  42. theory.

  44. Second, is the communication of significant biological problems 
  45. to investigators traditionally outside of biology, but otherwise 
  46. in appropriate areas of science and technology.  This will be accomplished 
  47. by soliciting mini-reviews in diverse areas, and by providing a forum 
  48. for the informal exchange of theories and experimental approaches.

  50. The growth of molecular cell biology has created large amounts of 
  51. complex data, and challenges to data handling, data analysis, and 
  52. interpretation.  The mounting volume and richness of data require 
  53. quantitative and multidisciplinary approaches for analysis and 
  54. interpretation.
