- Has anyone found that using a modem on an old phone exchange that
- supports pulse dialing only is a problem compared to using one
- on a newer exchange that supports tone dialing? I'm on one of those
- old pulse dialing exchanges, and it took quite a bit of mucking around
- with the modem initialization string to just get the modem to recognize
- a dial tone! Is it common for modems (mine's an Avtek) to not
- recognize dialtones on older phone exchanges? Does anyone know
- if TELECOM charges anything to re-connect a phone to a different local
- exchange? Because all the new phones in my area are connected to the new
- exchange, and if it doesn't cost anything and modem performance is better, I'd
- like to switch from the old exchange to the new one.
