  10. I ran across a reference to K Street in a recent Economist.  The exact
  11. context was that Capitol Hill and K Street would be pleased with
  12. Bentsen's appointment as Treasury Secretary.

  14. Oviously this is metonomy, but for what?  I assume that this is refering
  15. to K Street in Washington, D.C., but what's on K Street.  My guess is
  16. that it's the headquarters of the Treasury Dept. and that this is
  17. refering to the rank and file Treasury bureaucrats.

  19. This also reminded me of a short list that I have of streets that have
  20. become metonyms or toponyms.
  21.  
  22.     Wall St.
  23.     Madison Ave.
  24.     Fleet St.
  25.     Skid Road  an actual road in Seattle
  26.     Grub Street  my dictionary tells me that this referes to literary
  27.         hacks, but I've never heard it used.
