  22.     Try either the latest AHD (3rd edition) or the "Concise Oxford English
  23. Dictionary".  Both are about the same size (i.e., I am not talking about 
  24. the complete OED or the 2-vol. Shorter OED), and I use both.  They are hard
  25. back volumes, so not quite as easy to keep on a desk as a paperback, but they
  26. are well worth the expense and space.
