- New Year's Day. Got up at 3am after 8 hrs. sleep. B-)
- It was raging outside.
- I called the Santa Cruz surf shop recording at 5:30:
-
- "Victory at Sea conditions. 20-40 mile onshore winds.
- No surf out there. Don't bother."
-
- Very short and hostile.
-
- Duck used the F word. "How does he know? If you don't want to surf,
- you can stay home and watch FOOTBALL!
- The drive was extremely hostile, with lots of washouts and spinouts on
- the freeway. I felt like a fool.
- I expected Pleasure Point to be a blown out mess.
-
- There was SURF!!! =-0 Lots o rain, but no wind.
- It was deserted except for one guy on the far outside and
- 2 guys at the Hook.
- Insides and the Hook were working together for long rides.
- We paddled out with 2 people we knew and had the place to ourselves til
- 11:30. It seemed like the surf was better when it rained.
- My first rain surf. I like it =-)
- It was definitely the best surf of 1993 so far!
- So, you can't always believe the surf reports...
-
- I'm finally getting paddling speed. This means I get more waves in '93.
- I used APE gloves for a bit, figured out where they made me sore
- (lats) and started doing an exercise that did the same thing:
- a straight arm pulldown on a lat pulley. I even won a paddling challenge
- during a lull between sets (it keeps you warm anyway!)
-
- I figure my surfing won't improve unless I get more waves, and
- the faster I can paddle, the more waves I get and the quicker I
- can get in the right place. So my New Year's resolution I guess
- is more waves. The same to YOU!!!
-
- =B-) Happy 1993
