- Tammy, I'm about to finish up my degree in pharmacy at Purdue, and I can
- tell you that in your case, it would be a bad idea to try diet aids. Fastin,
- the prescription mentioned, and the OTC appetite suppressants are
- "counter-indicated" in diabetes. I know that your diabetes has probaby
- subsided now that your daughter is here, but it would still not be a good
- idea to take these drugs for a while. (The OTC (Over The Counter) medications
- contain phenylpropanolamine, which is also commonly used as a decongestant.
- It is known to raise blood pressure, increase heart rate, and decrease
- appetite (surprise!)) These effects and most especially the constriction
- of blood vessels can be more dangerous in the presence of high blood sugar,
- which may occur a few weeks after pregnancy-induced diabetes. Oh well,
- enough medical stuff. COngratulations on your daughter. I hope all
- goes well with you. I'm glad that you are asking questions -- the right
- questions. Good luck!
