- Actually, if my son tells me he is homosexual I will encourage him not to
- engage in what we consider to be a sinful lifestyle (i.e. sleeping with
- another man). But this is straying from the original point in question
- which was:
-
- Should the schools teaching children that homosexuality is a valid
- lifestyle choice. If my son discovers that he is homosexual, I will deal
- with it at that time. What is relevant to this discussion is whether or
- not the school system should be teaching social values traditionally dealt
- with in the home. I say NO!
-
- One poster earlier made the point that rather than worry about teaching
- social values, schools might try teaching kids to read and add. About
- six months ago the school supervisor for (I believe) Easton made a similar
- comment. He defended the decrease in student scores in the traditional
- subjects (math, science, history, ...) by pointing out that there are
- only X hours in a day. Time spent on teaching various social concerns (the
- list is growing) is time taken away from traditional the traditional
- disciplines. In his opinion, private schools had a great advantage over
- public schools in that they were not bound (by the government) to deal with
- these non-academic issues.

-
- I was responding to your comment about suicide. I regard suicide as a selfish
- act perpetrated by an individual who doesn't have the courage to deal with
- life on life's terms.
