  33. Mr. Contento's point is well taken.  I must disagree with Mr. Dibos both in 
  34. his method and in his conclusion.  The method I observed was to greet a 
  35. contribution to the newsgroup with a statement which highlights insults and 
  36. other non-constructive language, rather than a constructive statement 
  37. containing reasonable and logically defensible objections.  Such methods are 
  38. more appropriate to "one of the groups created for the purpose", such as 
  39. alt.flame, alt.dev.null, etc.  It also seems to me that the assertion that 
  40. quotations by Chesterton, Beecher, Roosevelt, Webster, Wilson, and Machiavelli 
  41. are inappropriate to alt.quotations simply because they conflict with Mr. Dibos' 
  42. beliefs is not a valid one.

  44. I appreciate the contributions of those who have posted quotations.  It is my
  45. hope that they will not be discouraged from sharing them with the group by
  46. individuals who prefer flames to rational discussion.  People who do not wish
  47. to read quotations about certain subjects would do better to use their kill
  48. files, especially in the present case (involving an article with a clearly 
  49. stated Subject: line).
