- Mr. Contento's point is well taken. I must disagree with Mr. Dibos both in
- his method and in his conclusion. The method I observed was to greet a
- contribution to the newsgroup with a statement which highlights insults and
- other non-constructive language, rather than a constructive statement
- containing reasonable and logically defensible objections. Such methods are
- more appropriate to "one of the groups created for the purpose", such as
- alt.flame, alt.dev.null, etc. It also seems to me that the assertion that
- quotations by Chesterton, Beecher, Roosevelt, Webster, Wilson, and Machiavelli
- are inappropriate to alt.quotations simply because they conflict with Mr. Dibos'
- beliefs is not a valid one.
-
- I appreciate the contributions of those who have posted quotations. It is my
- hope that they will not be discouraged from sharing them with the group by
- individuals who prefer flames to rational discussion. People who do not wish
- to read quotations about certain subjects would do better to use their kill
- files, especially in the present case (involving an article with a clearly
- stated Subject: line).
