  23.           Then Shem Tov was discovered as having an ancient, 1st cent.
  24.      Mishnaic-Hebrew, base during the last 5 or so years by the same
  25.      George Howard that you are quoting on the DuTillet version.  The
  26.      DuTillet is regarded as "old" but not ancient.  There are some
  27.      ways that the two versions align, but for the most part, the Shem
  28.      Tov shows evidence of having been an ancient origional composition
  29.      of Matthew, rather than a take-off of any Greek, or even an
  30.      ancient Syriac version.
  31.           The Old Syriac, Sinnaticus #30, [not the Peshitta] is rather
  32.      more well know btw..., referred to the in NKJV ect., as it was
  33.      discovered at the turn of this century, and it includes 2
  34.      manuscripts of Matthew thru John in Biblical Aramaic from aprox.
  35.      late second to early third cent's AD/Ce called the Sinai-
  36.      Palimpsest and the Curetonian version, respectively.  Titled
  37.      Evangelion Da-MePharreshe, F. Crawford Burkitt, M.A.  Cambridge
  38.      University Press, 1904 [out of print].
  39.           But back to the Shem Tov.  There are plenty of "scholarly
  40.      references" to it.  For example, you might want to read the review
  41.      in BIBLE REVIEW [Winter 1986] by George Howard pages 15-25:
  42.           New evidence indicates that the Gospel of Matthew was an
  43.      original Hebrew composition.  Indeed, it it now possible to
  44.      recover much of this original Hebrew composition from an extant
  45.      manuscript ...{aprox. 10 pages of material here in BR w.86}... The
  46.      similarities in arrangement and wording of the Hebrew and Greek
  47.      texts of Matthew clearly suggest that one text served as a model
  48.      for the other. {...} ...(S.T.)...was written as an origional
  49.      composition, not as a translation.
  50.           Or if you prefer, read the entire evidence yourself in
  51.      George Howards book, where he gives a convincing argument that
  52.      it is indeed an ancient Mishnaic-Hebrew origional composition
  53.      underlaying the Shem Tov manuscript[s].  Citing varient Hebrew
  54.      substratum for the Greek, puns, word connections, and alliteration
  55.      that would be unique to a Hebrew origional, comparison with
  56.      various ancient Hebrew versions and quotes, including the 2nd cent
  57.      quotes of the first century Good-News of the Natzratim, ect...., &
  58.      including the entire text in Hebrew, with an English translation:
