- I don't know what the heck is going on around here. I'm a Ford man
- through and through, as my "This is Ford country, where, on a quiet
- night, you can hear a Chevy rusting" T-shirt attests. (I'd wear a
- Performance Engineering T-shirt, only John hasn't announced them yet)
-
- Somehow the Chevys are invading. My shop now has an '87 350 which is
- under repair (needed welding on frozen water jacket - purchase price
- $100, with 3000 miles on it). Then came a 262 short block, which I
- swapped a set of lifters for. Then a 307 long block for $40. I'm
- planning on boring the 262 to take 305 pistons and running 6 inch rods,
- and either it or the 350 will go in the '60 Chev. The 307... heck, it
- was cheap. The crank is bad, but I can swap in a 350 crank and use 230
- six cylinder pistons to make a 329. Why? Well, heck, PAW will sell me
- a 350 crank for the same price as a 327, and the pistons are the same
- price, so why not?
-
- I went down to pick up the 350 block a little while ago, and my
- favorite welder gave me a free four-bolt 350 block too. Hey, free is a
- quality overlooking many faults, and considering my brother looked for
- two months for one in Delaware (and paid $250 when he did) I guess it's
- a deal.
-
- What the heck. At least I can sell them, which is more than I can say
- for the 194 Chevy six in the storage shed. Only 30,000 miles on a major
- rebuild (line bored, decked, etc) and nobody wants it. Maybe I can
- stand it on end and mount a mailbox on the end. Lots of people around
- here with mailboxes on crankshafts, but I've never seen one using a
- whole motor...
