  20. You shouldn't've been.  There are tides on land, too, on the order of a couple
  21. of feet.  If the Earth's crust were perfectly rigid, the ocean tides, relative
  22. to the land, would be even higher.  Remember, too, that the oceans are part of
  23. the Earth.  The tides are noticeable simply because the oceans are easier to
  24. stretch than the crust.
