Last November while I was living in Houston, I would wake up to voices in my
room anywhere between 1:30 - 3:30 a.m.  The voices belonged to a man and woman
and most of the time they were arguing with each other in loud tones.  I would
awaken hearing these voices with a sense of fear and foreboding and by the time
I was fully awake, the voices would stop.  This went on everyday for about 3
weeks.  At first I thought it was my neighbors because I was living in a condo-
minium complex.  However my upstairs and downstairs neighbors were both single
and after talking with them, discovered that they did not hear the voices and
they were alone so it couldn't have been either one of them talking to someone
else.  My bedroom was located at the back of the unit so I didn't share a wall
with anyone.  Also, at the time, there was an unusual amount of violence taking
place in the city and I thought it might be a subconscious reaction to the
violence.  So, after losing sleep for 5 or more days, I stopped reading the
newspaper and listening to radio or t.v. (out of sight out of mind, right?).
Except that didn't work -- I continued to wake up hearing loud voices arguing
with each other (I usually heard the man's voice more than the woman's voice).
I finally mentioned this to my mom and my dad overheard the conversation and
used this as an opportunity to buy me a firearm (he had wanted to do that for
a looong time).  I gave in and kept the gun next to my bed at night.  The voices
stopped after acquiring the gun.  To this day, I can't explain where the voices
came from or the actual words they were saying to each other but I sensed anger
in their tones and I would wake up with a rapid heartbeat feeling very afraid.
I also remember telling my mom (before I got the gun) that I thought it was a
"presence" of some sort rather than actual people arguing.
