  19. I believe that somewhere it was mentioned that Narsil was forged by Telchar.
  20. Thus It must have been given to Elindil before Numenor was destroyed.  He brought it with him to ME and in the Last Alliance during the seige of Mordor, Sauron came and faught with Elendil and broke Narsil.  Later on when Elrond was talking to Gandalf, Elrond said to Gandalf that the blade would not be renewed until the ring was found.  I think that this is in Unfinished Tales but I do not have my books with me right now but I read it somewhere in one of Tolkien's books.
