  16. This is the new UNI*STAR BASE CENTRAL: sysop@hitech.newark.nj.us
  17. reporting to you with great glad tidings for our wondrous STARSHIP
  18. EARTH and all its denizens.  The first beneficiaries of this news will
  19. be all SysOps interested in participating as a local UNI*STAR BASE in a
  20. new system from the HiTECH Group.  The UNI*STAR BASE program is designed
  21. to provide BBS operators and their users with:
  22.   A. A NEW AND SIMPLE WAY TO CHARGE AND COLLECT for BBS services,
  23.      software, information, images or just membership and usage;
  24.   B. Participation in a completely NEW NATIONWIDE FINANCIAL SYSTEM; one
  25.      designed TO BENEFIT EVERYONE who uses it;
  26.   C. A variety of new ways to GENERATE SUBSTANTIAL NEW INCOME from their
  27.      BBS operation with a whole array of EXCITING NEW BBS USER
  28.      SERVICES;
  29.   D. A way to SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE PHONE COSTS, enough to
  30.      make direct accessing of boards across the country, a more
  31.      practical and affordable reality;
  32.   E. A very INEXPENSIVE SOURCE for many consumer and business items,
  33.      including computer and communications equipment;
  34.   F. A low-cost, electronic, UNIVERSAL MAIL SYSTEM, that allows its
  35.      users to reach anyone in the U.S. and across the world directly,
  36.      even if they have no fax or computer.
  37. These are all part of the HiTECH Group's ENVIRONMENTALLY POSITIVE
  38. Communications *UNiVERSE*, which has been under development since 1983.
  39. Various elements and services comprising this HiTECH *UNiVERSE* will
  40. be introduced one or two at a time, from now through most of 1993.
  41. The HiTECH Group is an organization of individuals and companies that is
  42. both a developer and extensive user of new technology.  Along with its
  43. affiliates, Universal Capital Group and Universal TeleSystems, HiTECH
  44. has created, by the use of Bulletin Boards and a new On-line Financial
  45. Service, a simplified integrated system that will reduce the cost and
  46. increase the benefits of current technology for a much broader segment
  47. of the U.S. population than those currently using computers. If you are
  48. presently a SysOp (actively running a BBS) or are seriously interested
  49. in setting up your own Board, you are invited to become active in this
  50. new HiTECH communications *UNiVERSE* as a UNI*STAR BASE Operator.  The
  51. HiTECH *UNiVERSE* divides the continental U.S. into roughly 125
  52. geographic areas, with up to 500 UNI*STAR BASES in each, though not
  53. every one will carry every HiTECH/UNI*STAR service.  Your functions,
  54. duties, responsibilities and income possibilities as a UNI*STAR BASE
  55. Operator will vary according to your current users, others you want to
  56. reach, as well as the HiTECH and UNI*STAR options you choose.  Some
  57. entail modest fees, some are free, with most covered by a formal
  58. contract.  You must be at least 16 years of age and be able to provide
  59. local community references.  If you are not currently operating a BBS
  60. but are considering doing so, HiTECH has a low-cost program to assist
