- Mainly because a significant number of the r.g.frp.* people
- (possibly even a majority-- I'm not sure, though) oppose the
- creation of any game-specific groups under the r.g.frp.*
- grouping. Don't look at r.g.frp.dnd as a precedent in any way--
- The only way the group flew at all was with good-faith
- reassurances that no other game, or even genre-specific groups
- would be created.
-
- I've lurked in r.g.frp(.*) for years-- pleaseplease don't anyone
- suggest another r.g.frp group there...
-
- Other concerns for the amber newsgroup, raised in the mailing
- list itself, deal with the merging (or not) of newsgroup and
- mailing list. The big question seems to be, should it be merged
- or not?
-
- If merged, I predict the increase in traffic will force members
- off the mailing list, and those members may not have access to
- the alt.* groups. Then again, people have been dropping the list
- for disk-space reasons already.
-
- If not merged, then there will almost certainly be a certain
- amount of duplication between group and list. There may also be
- a migration from list to group, although this is _far_ from
- certain.
-
- For my money, I think the creation of the alt group without a
- merge to the list is the way to go. But then, I'm lucky enough
- to get the alt.* groups, don't have many constraints on my disk
- space for mail as long as I read it quickly, and will continue to
- monitor either or both. I also have absolutely no say in the
- matter of merge vs non-merge.
-
- I'm curious as to the opinions of people who might read the
- group, but can't handle 30-plus mail messages a day.
