- Thanks to those who responded to my posting about the problem I had with
- EMM386.EXE and a Philips CDD461 drive, especially Eddy Olk who sent me a
- later version of the driver disk (1.03). As it turned out, it wasn't
- really an EMM386.EXE problem at all: the interface card didn't like the
- slot it was in (a 16-bit slot next to the video card). It's now in an 8
- bit slot as far from the video card as possible and it works fine now. A
- weird one that...
-
- The only thing now is that it's slower than I expected. The best
- throughput I can get from it, based on copying a 3.5MB file using the /E
- (expanded memory) switch on CDROM.SYS, is about 63KB/sec - a bit short
- of the 150KB/sec a true multimedia-compliant drive should manage. Are
- all Philips drives this slow, or do I still have a problem?
-
- Best wishes for the New Year to all readers.
