- I'm pretty ignorant about all these different formats - I haven't really
- got the big picture yet (Im still baffled why they need to do special
- things for video and sound, and don't just store them as ordinary files
- the way Acorn do with Replay CDs) - anyway, I'm about to write some
- code to read Sony Dataman disks on an ordinary drive. Apparently, I'm
- told, I can only read 'old-style' disks on ordinary drives because the
- later disks are in 'XA' format, and I need a special XA controller
- card to read them. Is this correct? If so, why? How did this new
- XA spec get through if you can't read the iso9660-compatible bits of
- the data? Or can you?
-
- As I say, I'm really ignorant of what all this stuff is about, so I
- won't be offended by idiot-level descriptions of how it all fits
- together.
-
- Thanks
