- Hmm.. Thats the weather we stay indorrs for, and run the
- air-conditioner, and drink ice tea... :-)
-
- How and when we open presents has changed over the years. When I was
- growing up, we sat around Christmas Eve and talked, sang songs, and
- did any last minute cake and cookie eating... or decorating.
-
- Then up early in the morning and rush to open presents.
-
- Most recently we meet at one of the houses in the family.
- Presents are moved from under the tree to each recipient. Then the
- host house figures out who goes first. One year it might be oldest
- to youngest, or youngest to oldest. We go in sequence, we went
- according to a draw of cards this year, last person in sequence
- handed out the gifts. 1st person removes a layer of wrapping paper
- from whichever gift that person wants to open, if a second layer
- of paper is found under the first, that person's turn is over
- and they get to wait ! Then the next person unwraps a gift, until
- all have unwrapped one gift or layer. We then start again on the
- next gift/layer... and continue until all gifts are unwrapped.
- It works okay with eight people, but my brother-in-laws group has
- about twenty, and it would take too long. What they do is, the
- gift giver can limit you on time taken to open a gift. Thats
- okay if only paper and ribbon is used on the gift... Sometimes
- duct tape and shipping tape is used on gifts between adults...
-
- Later and have a safe and happy holiday !
