- "Aurora and I got a simple prayer answered today," says the
- Lamplighter, to anyone who cares to listen.
-
- "Back in November, my grandmother sent us money and told us to use it
- to go down to Rockefeller Center, to see the Christmas tree and the skaters.
- We planned to do it last Saturday, but Aurora woke up that morning with an
- awful sore throat and a painful cough."
-
- "Somehow we made it through the weekend, but our trip to see the tree
- seemed scuttled. On Monday, she went to the doctor, and she's now taking
- antibiotics for her sinus infection, and cough syrup to quiet her cough. We
- weren't sure whether she'd get well enough to see the tree before Christmas,
- but this morning she said she felt fine."
-
- "We got on the subway -- the 1 to 59th street, and the B to
- Rockefeller Center. A homeless man sang a song to everyone in our car, and
- some gave him money. We arrived, and wandered around the subterranean
- network of hallways until we saw a restaurant right in front of us with a
- view of the famous skating rink. A short way farther, and there we were."
-
- "There was the tree, tall and lighted, behind Prometheus with his
- fire. Aurora took pictures. We also went to look at St. Patrick's
- Cathedral (a homeless woman huddled in a blanket across the street from it,
- and a gray-haired man put some money in her box). We looked at some store
- windows, but we got too cold and went home."
-
- "Before we got home we went to look inside the Cathedral of St. John
- the Divine. Imagine -- all this time it's been one block away and we hadn't
- seen the inside of it! It's very pretty, like a cross between a museum and a
- church."
-
- "I washed dishes, then Aurora made fudge, and I wrapped her presents
- (don't tell her what they are!). It's been a nice day so far."
-
- "I guess that's all there is to tell! You know the rest. Merry
- Christmas!"
-
- With smiles of appreciation to Jilara and Alaric's Christmas Spirit, and to
- John / Crazyman ...
