- "My trademark hat for the past 20 years has been a khaki Malaysian bush
- hat. It looks a bit like the classic 'Aussie hat' in that one side of the
- brim folds up and snaps to the crown, but it's made of stitched cotton
- rather than felt. I acquired my first one, British Army surplus, on my
- first trip to London. It finally wore out after 12 years hard use and my
- current edition is a Banana Republic(tm) replica. Most of my friends
- (especially the Australians) find it embarrassingly silly, but it keeps
- the rain and sun off and my head warm, so they'll just have to put up with
- it/me.
-
- "I've also got a few specific toppers for special occasions. Most of
- them are 'baseball' style with appropriate symbols across the front. They
- include a 'CAT2 Team' and 'BCR Network On Track' engineer's cap from my
- employers, an 'NRA Instructor' and, as of yesterday, a 'Bullwinkle' hat
- (sans antlers). There's also a hard hat for work around the house and
- some skullcaps for the rare Jewish religious service. I'm considering
- getting an 'Official Mensa Thinking Cap', but I'm not sure I'd have much
- use for it.
-
- "Truth is, I spend most of my time bareheaded. As time passes, and my
- receding hairline and bald spot slowly approach each other, that may
- change.
-
- "Someone else mentioned walking sticks. I've got a stout, western red
- cedar 'mugger discourager' I carry most places. For Ren. Faire I've got
- a dragon headed staff and I brought a Lake District walking stick,
- complete with alpine spike, back from my last visit to Britain."
