- Liralen is shivering in the bitter cold of the meadow. She got up while it
- was still dark, left for work before the light came up, and is still at
- work in the dark. She is wondering why she'd standing in a meadow with the
- air biting at her lungs...
-
- Until Didi comes out with her bouquet of herbs...
-
- Rue. The bitter scent of it awakens Liralen and she realizes that it isn't
- *that* cold out, especially with her coat and sweater and jeans and layered
- socks. The fingerless gloves on her hands itch just a little, reminding
- her of their construction. She smooths her fingers over the drum head
- between her legs and sighs softly as she peels the gloves off.
-
- Then MarywithaTail comes out of Callahan's with her candle, and her effort
- and love shining through the light. For a moment, Liralen's heart is
- dazzled with the possibilities, and her eyes mesmerized by the ever-
- changing, ever-consuming, and ever-perfect flame. Gently, she reaches
- out, and the flame catches on a twig. She uses the twig to light a
- lantern that hangs over Mary Mark and the other drummers and she; and then
- holds the lantern for the next person to light their light by...
-
- And then she readies herself for the ritual, only knowing that she'll
- follow Merrigold's lead and play.
