- Rounder bows his head in silence, then sips his Calvados before addressing the
- group. I'd like to echo Jilara's sentiment, and add a comment of my own. Just
- before one of my last classes, I overheard a woman sitting in front of me
- talking about the riots in India (the story had just hit the papers at that
- point). She is from very near the mosque that was destroyed. She talked about
- how the news coverage was inaccurate, since it glossed over the extreme poverty
- in India in favor of the more sensational religious angle. Then she said
- something that I'll never forget. She talked about how her family was in that
- area, and how if the riots continued, they might easily be targeted, being
- Muslim. She appeared very shaken. Then she said, "I don't care about that
- mosque, it doesn't matter that it was destroyed. As long as I am alive, that
- mosque will live within me. I just don't want to see people dying over it."
-
- I would like to toast this woman's strength and conviction, may it infect us
- all.
