- Does anyone know the origin of the term SIG-alert?
- For those who don't know, a SIG-alert is what traffic reporters
- use to indicate a tie-up on a freeway.
- I have heard 2 explanations:
- SIG is short for "signal".
-
- A well-known traffic reporter was named Sigmund,
- and he used to do traffic alerts which became known as "SIG-alerts".
-
-
- I have wondered about this for many many years
- (I am a Southern California native).
-
-
- Many Thanks! And stay away from those SIG-alerts!
