-
- A 486/50 with 16 megs of RAM and 1 GIG of fast SCSI disk space with
- a multiport board would run in the $3000 range -- depending on video
- and other options. This would offer enough horsepower to support large
- multiple file transfers.
-
- As a point of reference, it isn't uncommon for this machine to be supporting
- 8 uucp sessions at one time, offering throughput in the 1300 cps range
- on the Telebit Trailblazers, 1900-2000 cps on the Worldblazers using TurboPEP,
- and 1500 cps on the v.32bis modems -- all at one time. The system loading
- is less than 1% with all of these transfers -- and one can't tell the transfers
- are going on unless seeing the lights blink on the modems.
-
- The Digiboards can support up to 128 ports at 38400 baud and system loading
- less than 2%. Some of their products can do 115200 baud with 16 ports with
- less than 1% loading.
