-
- have recently begun a new project that pays homage imagery derived
- from the 1950's sci-fi motion picture classic:
-
- "this island earth"
-
- i am attempting to perfect a technique whereby making use of
- conventional drawing methods (paper, coloring pencils, inks, paints,
- etc.) to create images which are then brought into the computer
- (i.e. by way of customized video digitizing routines)...
-
- once inside the computer environment i can perform all kinds 'o
- algorithmic calculations on these hand-drawn images, allowing for
- the following:
-
- (1) user interaction -- users can manipulate what they see on
- screen. users can get "literal" instantaneous feedback by way of
- small hand-held control devices that facilitate changes to the
- images presented on-screen.
-
- (2) randomization -- the ability to mix up bits and pieces of
- images in such a way as to almost never present the same exact image
- on-screen twice.
-
- the result is an animated painting of sorts -- that is both user
- interactive and "alive" ("alive," in that parts of the image change
- randomly producing a never ending variety of "patterns").
