- Two items:
-
- I have a Xerox copy of my GGdad's Pension Record from the National Archives,
- that includes a nicely written certificate of his would at Gettysburg.
- I think it would make a nice wll hanging, but I'd like something better
- that a regular Xerox. Are there copy services that can prettify a copy of
- such a doccument? I know I'll never get the original.
-
- Second, I just read on Prodigy that the Army has indexed 80,000 photos from
- the Civil War. Dies anybody have any experience with this? The address to
- write to is:
-
- Department of the Army
- US Army Military History Institute
- Carlisle Barraks
- Carlisle, PA 17013-5008
-
- Attn: Special Collections Branch
- Michael J. Winey, Curator
-
- They will "answer all requests", but suppling Unit and rank will undoubtedly
- help alot. Of the 80,000, 90% are Union soldiers, but they have many unindexed
- photos that will keep them busy for at least 3 more years. If you have a
- Confederate ancestor (who wasn't a general) you may need to be patient.
