- I'm not sure that I fully understand your question but I wil try to answer.
- UCB is most definitely NOT allowing its Graduate Student Employees (GSEs)
- to strike. This is not some kind of symbolic strike that they are
- considering; there is no 'university consent' involved at all. There are
- no rules about any "right to strike.'" The fact is that the University
- and the AGSE have two very different and conflicting philosophies on how
- the GSEs are to be treated. The (potential) strike, which has been postponed
- until Thursday morning, if it happens will last until either
- A) the demands are met or an agreement is reached, or
- B) the GSE members vote to cease striking.
- So you see this could potentially last quite longer than anyone would like.
-
- As for other schools, I can only tell you that there are three colleges
- which recognize graduate student employee unions, one of them being
- the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and I can't remember the other two.
- I don't know about any kind of strike "agreements" but I thought that
- striking was supposed to be something you did when you _can't_ reach
- agreement...?
