- The Asarco smelter stack, Ruston. Would cost countless tens of millions
- to make a freestanding masonry tower 600 feet tall today. Amazing
- piece of handiwork. Quite impressive up close with the huge arched
- flues forty feet high at the base. It sits on a bluff all by iteslf now,
- although much of the smelter still remains by the water. See it while
- you still can. It *should* be cleaned up and have an observation deck
- put on top. Soon to be blown up. I guess that makes it performance art.
