  17. The most recent number I have heard for the marginal cost of a shuttle
  18. flight is $50M, but I don't think this includes an adequate allowance for
  19. the ground support. To round up for inflation, and to be generally
  20. conservative, assume that the actual marginal cost to a private user would
  21. be about $80M.

  23. I have seen first cut designs for a passenger module for the shuttle that
  24. would pack about 60 people in like sardines. In addition to being
  25. technically doubtful, that kind of arrangement would significantly reduce
  26. the market for some kinds of travel (vacation in particular). If you allow
  27. a reasonable amount of room for support equipment, a bar, and the like, a
  28. passenger capacity of 20 is probably believable, which would yield a per
  29. person cost of #$2M.

  31. This, of course, doesn't take into account the purchase of the passenger
  32. module, much less it's development cost. I guess my vacation in space will
  33. just have to wait a few years.
