  14. No, it was possible with the old Strowger equipment (widely prevalent
  15. until privatisation, a few years ago).  Basically you connect a
  16. capacitor in series with the phone.  The Strowger exchange would see
  17. the call as terminated and wouldn't charge any more; however, until
  18. the selectors actually moved on (which could be quite a long time,
  19. especially at night) you could contine to talk for free.
