- No, it was possible with the old Strowger equipment (widely prevalent
- until privatisation, a few years ago). Basically you connect a
- capacitor in series with the phone. The Strowger exchange would see
- the call as terminated and wouldn't charge any more; however, until
- the selectors actually moved on (which could be quite a long time,
- especially at night) you could contine to talk for free.
