Yes this is despicable.

I look upon people like Ghandi and Mother Theresa as true religious
and spiritual leaders. They embody what religion can be.

 Yes, when religion is used this way it sucks, but millions of people on
earth receive inspiration and solace from religion. To say that they are all
ignorant, deluded, etc, misses the point that millions find religion useful
and necessary. Many are ignorant to the misuses of religion, but many others
are ignorant to its positive effects.
