- Following on a recent thread about myopia and glasses, I'd like to
- solicit information about retinal injury associated with this condition.
-
- In a recent eye examination by an ophthalmologist (I have a severe
- case of myopia), he explained that scarring was visible on my
- retina. I'm not aware of the scar and it doesn't appear to
- interfere with my vision. Now that I know I have it, I'd like to
- find out how it may have occurred and how I can prevent it from
- deteriorating.
-
- Myopia is often associated with thinner retinas which, I suspect, may
- be a consequence of eye elongation (I'm not an MD). This may in turn
- weaken it's attachment to the inner walls of the eye. Why the
- scarring may have happened is a mystery. It could have been mechanical
- stress, or even an accident with a low power laser I once used for
- research.
-
- Is anyone aware of conditions which can cause scarring? Perhaps
- a sport? The only physical activity I engage in are skiing (novice),
- mountain biking and occasional weight lifting.
-
- Any comments appreciated.

- Cheers,
