- To any doctors out there with data and sources:
-
- What is the current data on the effect of condom use on the
- long-term transmission rates for AIDS. Note that we are not
- talking about the probability of transmission for one
- episode of intercourse.
-
- I am asking this because a colleague of mine has claimed that
- condoms are not an effective means for arresting the rate
- of growth of the AIDS epidemic (he quotes a study that supposedly
- says that 25% of condom users will get AIDS over time).
- This arguement is religious
- in nature. He claims that the use of all contraceptives is a
- violation of apostolic tradition (Catholic reason for prohibition)
- and that using condoms to stop the spread of AIDS is not
- sanctioned because it is not effective for this purpose.
