-
- This snot/dairy-products connection is very widely believed, including
- some MDs (e.g. two of the seven UK NHS doctors who have treated me
- during my lifetime). In my own case, whether or not I have a cold,
- there is no detectable difference in snot levels between consuming
- zero dairy products for a week, and drinking two pints of (full-fat)
- milk, eating half a pound of cheese, and probably an ounce of butter,
- every day for a week.
-
- It was then suggested to me that I had to get all of the milk out of
- my system, which would take at least a month. So I abstained from all
- dairy products for three months. No effect. My normal consumption is
- about 2/3 of a pint of milk, 1/5 pound of cheese, and some butter, a
- day. (Not a popular diet these days, but I feel it protects me from
- the bad effects of the pseudo-butter which the cholesterol scare has
- panicked people into consuming :-)
-
- Can anybody cite any peer-reviewed studies supporting this
- milk-makes-snot hypothesis?
