- Yesterday while home sick I watched a children's educational TV
- program. The subject was desalination by _freezing_ seawater.
-
- The process was being developped by a physicist for a Long Island
- community. A test pond (70 feet square and 3 feet deep) would be
- filled with seawater by spraying it into the air (spraying in winter
- temperatures would cool the water faster than just filling the pond).
- The water would freeze and brine would drain from the bottom of the
- pond. The ice is basically pure water. If done in the winter, no
- energy is needed to freeze the water.
