-
- Yes, heads go bad but
-
- It's very rare.
- It usually doesn't happen "all of a sudden"
-
- As in any other electronic gizmo, any part along the line can
- fail. First picture tubes and now Video heads seem to develop
- this "legend" of things that always go bad.
-
- In 10 years of servicing TVs, I found and replaced 2 pix tubes.
-
- In a long period of servicing over 1000 rental VCRs for a chain,
- I may have replaced 4 or 5 heads.
-
- My point here is know your service shop well. Other popular
- electronic legends -
-
- "The microprocessor is bad" - If the unit comes on and performs
- some of it's functions, the microprocessor may be just fine.
- Usually when it goes, nothing works.
-
- "It's probably a cable problem" - Alas, the other day I found my
- father sitting in front of his accidentally-unplugged TV
- complaining that something was wrong with the CABLE!
-
- And, just for fun, my favorite customer line when bringing something in
- for repair -
-
- "There can't be too much wrong with it - it worked ok
- yesterday."
