- Since there has been little noteworthy threads of late, I thought that
- I would introduce a thread that might be a little more accessible than "sore
- hands in space". Favorite tricks...
-
- I've always really liked half turns. With three clubs one can flash
- three up, do a 180 degree turn and continue juggling. Half, single and a
- half, double and a half spins, etc. are possible. It is a very nice trick
- that is useful when changing directions on stage. I also use it with
- five balls. There is a three out of five up and a five out of five up. (The
- latter being only slightly harder than the former.) NICE trick... These
- tricks extend to seven+ but if you are considering that then you needn't be
- reading rec.juggling - get a job.

- Half turns. These tips relate to half turns with clubs, rings or
- balls of any number. (Watch for the Super Secret tip! It's good!)
-
- 1. Learn the half turn. A nice little pivot on the balls of the feet
- works well. Make sure that you hit 180. The turn shouldn't be short or long.
-
- 2. Learn the flash. If you are working with three balls for example,
- flash three either RLR or LRL crossing. Imagine the time for the turn.
- Continue juggling after the catches. The flash does not need to be very
- high - just above the head is good. Additionally, the flash does not need to
- go way over the back. Flash straight up.
-
- 3. Count the flash. With the three ball example you should count each
- throw to keep the timing straight. Here is the super secret tip -- count one
- more than the number of objects. ie. with three balls the count one, two,
- three, four corresponds to throw, throw, throw, space. The space is where
- the turn comes in. With five count six. At first just imagine the turn.
- Then every third or fourth attempt try the flash with the turn. At first
- just catch all of the objects. You don't need to continue the juggle. That
- part comes easily if the half turn is clean.
-
- 4. Make sure that you are getting all of the throws off BEFORE you start
- to turn. That is the purpose of the extra count. The body stays still until
- all of the props are in the air, then comes the turn.
-
- I do RLR and RLRLR half turns. I turn to the left
- (counter-clockwise). I also do full turns in this direction with the same
- RLR and RLRLR. Good trick. One of my favs.
