  12. Last weekend was the opener for pheasants in Kansas, and it was not
  13. very successful for most hunters.  We hunted in Russell county with 13
  14. hunters and 3 dogs, but only managed to bag 6 pheasants.  Compared to
  15. last year when we had 28 birds and two years ago we had our best year
  16. ever with 48.  Those years I believe we only had 12 hunters, but can't
  17. remember for sure.  Of course, we did miss a few that we should have
  18. got, but the pheasant population is obviously down.  Alot of milo
  19. still hadn't been cut, which I'm sure did not help our situation, but
  20. shouldn't have made this drastic a difference.  One positive note
  21. though is that the Quail population in Kansas is coming up a little.
  22. We got 20 quail, without really making a real strong effort to find
  23. them, mostly happened upon them while looking for pheasants.  Have not
  24. talked to anyone so far with a group larger than 4 that managed to get
  25. more than one bird a piece in this general area of the state.  Did
  26. anyone else do much better?
