- This post is *related* to the on-going discussion of subject.
-
- About 10 years ago I read an article about shooting viv-a-vis the
- "wrong" dominant eye. While the subject _specifically_ addressed point
- shooting (as oppossed to aimed sighting, the current discussion), I have
- noticed the corrective effects have some transferrability. That is, by
- doing the "corrective" excersises, not only has my point shooting improved
- (nay, is now *correct*), but it has also helped immensely with aimed
- sighting as well.
-
- This may be a re-hash, but _one_ way to determine dominate eye is to point
- at an object with the finger of the dominate or shooting hand. Then
- carefully, without moving the finger, see which eye is actually "sighted".
- There are other ways, but let's assume you know you have the problem that
- the dominate eye is opposite the dominate side or desired shooting hand.
-
- The article described an "exercise" where you started off by _pointing_
- the finger at an object. *Insure* that the correct (or desired "dominate")
- eye is used. In other words "aim a little" ;-). Repeat this countless
- times, gradually diminshing the amount of actual aiming used, until a
- natural pointing occurs without any aiming. This may take k's of repetitions.
- I have pointed at numerous road signs, billboards, cows, etc, while driving.
-
- Also, I had a pellet trap in my bedroom and used to point shoot about 20
- BB's most every night before retiring. Did that for several years...
-
- By gosh, it works! I now point shoot like I was born that way. I still
- normally close the left eye while doing aimed fire, but it really isn't
- necessary. This is a habit that took years to develop, and will take years
- to break. Besides I don't make a concious effort to do so (probably should,
- tho). I do *target aquisition* with both eyes open; just close the instant
- before shooting. Since I generally hit what I want, keeping both eyes open
- during the whole process just doesn't seem to be a priority.
-
- Hope this helps and contributes to the discussion. E-mail me for a more
- detailed explanation if you like. We can even resort to telecom. This is
- _much_harder_ to put into words than demonstrate, I assure you! :-)
