I once had a problem with a gas pedal sticking in a position nearly flat
on the floor (82 German spec Audi 100). Needless to say, the effect was
somewhat startling the first time it happened, but pumping of the pedal
released it. The problem was the cable/linkage catching on one of the
braided lines running from the fuel distributor to the fuel injectors.
Look for minute distortion of the braiding anywhere near the linkage / cable. If there's none, or the the linkage / cable doesn't go near one of the lines
