- A definition safe is without risk. IMHO traffic safety is synonymous with
- collision avoidance. The traffic safety curriculum which I teach stresses
- responsibilities of the vehicle operator: to know her/his physical
- limitations, the capabilities of the vehicle, and operate the vehicle within
- those limits.
- Out of the devices listed above I found two items which may help a person
- maintain control of a vehicle: a seat belt helps to keep the operator behind
- the steering wheel and anti-lock brakes may help maintain control under
- emergency braking (but may not be effective on ice). All other devices/
- concerns are aimed toward collision survival.
- Why do some people think vehicles need to be collision proof? Safety is
- breached when a collision occurs. Why isn't there more emphasis on collision
- avoidence and getting incompetent people out of the driver's seat?
- BTW I do *not* want air bags in my vehicles!
