- It was a joke!
-
- I only wanted to make people laugh as well as poke fun at those who are totally
- one sided on this issue. Some of the responses really made me laugh but it has
- seemed to turn a little ugly. Japanese cars were a cheap and reliable
- alternative to American cars in the early eighties but things have changed
- since then. It's hard to determine what is an "American" car anymore and the
- Japanese cars are not so cheap anymore (more expensive in many cases) or that
- much more reliable (sometimes less reliable). The American manufacturers have
- found out that it takes a long time to change people's minds as some people are
- still comparing '69 Buicks with '92 Toyotas. I happened to get a lemon with a
- Japanese nameplate but it could have just as well have been a car with an
- American nameplate. I guess my main points were: 1) Nameplates do not mean
- much anymore and 2) There are a lot of irrational people out there.
