- My Mazda service rep. just ordered an Engine Gas Injection (EGI)
- controller for my 93 RX-7. This part will hopefully correct the
- brain-dead way that the car runs at times. I was told that part
- has been recalled and should be replaced on most of the older
- RX-7s. Unfortunately, the part is back-ordered and I don't know
- when it will come in.
-
- For those not aware of this problem, the symptoms (at least in
- my car) are widely varying throttle response, occasional stalling
- when cold or at idle (especially after turning on/off the AC),
- and a synchronized "miss" which I only notice when the AC is on level
- 3 or 4. Since it is cooler now, the only problem which really bugs
- me is the changing throttle response. Sometimes my car "goes like
- hell" with only slight pressure on the throttle. Other times, the
- response is really slow and there is markedly less power low in
- the rev range. However, when the car is running "good", mileage
- goes way down, but goes up when the car is running "bad". This
- behavior seems consistent with fuel injection which is logically
- or mechanically damaged.
-
- Anyway, if any one else has experienced this problem, let me know.
