- I didn't, but it's not their fault (or at least not the fault of more
- than one or two people there). Rate setting is done by the
- legislature -- who could be legitimately called tax-happy. I'm
- impressed by the fact that if you're transferring a license from out
- of state you get to pay for all of the proficiency tests that you'd
- have to take to get a new license even though you don't have to take
- them all (that was $70 a few years back -- $35 for the license, $20
- for the driving test, and $15 for the written -- and I imagine it's
- more now). That's a pretty good racket.
-
- When I took my MA written test the guy up front said: "Don't forget to
- put your name on it. While the state of Massachusetts can use the
- money that you'd pay to take another test, you don't want to have to
- pay it." (He also said, "Keep your eyes off of other people's tests.
- This test is ridiculously easy anyway." It made me think that not
- everyone in the DMV is completely incompetant -- some of them at least
- know that their tests are too easy.)
