- The "emphasis" indicator should be labeled "de-emphasis" since it indicates
- that the de-emphasis circuitry in the player has been activated. Some CD's
- are recorded with the high frequencies boosted or "emphasized". Since this
- is done prior to the signal storage (or transmission as is done in FM) it is
- known as "pre-emphasis." The presence of the pre-emphasis is recorded in the
- sub-code on the CD, and this information signals the CD player to turn on the
- circuitry that rolls off the highs, restoring the original tonal balance.
