- I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'm just going to
- relate the experiences my wife and I have had (and are still
- having, to some degree).
-
- We had this same problem with Cory. He wanted us to lie in
- bed with him and sleep with him. This is how we handled it:
- We read him 2-3 books every night before bedtime. When we first
- started having problems, he would cry when we left the bed, so
- for about 3 weeks, one of us would lay in bed with him until he
- fell asleep, then we'd leave. Of course this *usually* meant that
- we'd fall asleep to, but it wasn't so bad to get a little nap in.
-
- After 3 weeks, we started by sitting outside his bed in a chair
- until he fell asleep, then left. We did this for about 3 weeks,
- then moved onto the next phase of saying we were "going to do some
- work in mommy and daddy's bedroom, but we'll be right next
- door (our room IS right next to his)". We did this for about 3
- weeks, then we graduated to "Mommy and daddy have work to go
- downstairs, but we can still hear you really good and we'll be
- back up later to check on you". In addition, we waived a "magic
- wand" over his bed and said a magic phrase to get rid of all bad
- dreams. Now, we have no problems kissing him goodnight and having
- him stay in bed. The only problem, and it's really not a problem
- for us, so I shouldn't classify it as a problem, is that Cory still
- jumps in bed with us sometimes in the middle of the night. Seeing
- as how we don't figure he'll be doing this forever, seeing as how
- we still sleep, seeing as how it's not EVERY night, and Cory feels
- good and seems well adjusted, we're going to continue letting him
- jump in bed with us when he does.
-
- Anyway, this is what works for us and we don't lose sleep anymore.
- Hope this helps . . .
