- I had asked by OB/GYN about this before I gave birth. She said the
- "off to the side" approach was more painful for the mother in healing,
- and the straight back, toward the rectum, did have a chance of tearing
- to the rectum, but it was rare. She would do the straight back if "necessary."
- I has also read that in some books.
-
- I didn't want an episiotomy. She gave me one - with out asking - knowing
- that I didn't want one. I was not aware what she was doing until she said
- I am doing the episotomy now. (I was a little upset, but had been pushing
- for 2 hours, so I didn't object.) I didn't tear into the rectum, she gave
- me a local before the cut (the only medication I had). It DID NOT hurt
- afterward at all. I was up and about within 1/2 hour, left the hospital
- the next morning. I even stopped to due some food shopping on the way home.
- No problems with sex later either.
-
- The next time (if there is a next time), I will again not want an episiotomy
- either. Just because I do not like the idea of cutting unless "necessary,"
- but I won't fear it either.
