  23. I don't think most people teach their guide dogs to do any kind of
  24. tricks.  I did teach my first dog to bow though.  She did it all the
  25. time naturally, I just had to get her to do it on command.  she did,
  26. too.  When she got older she couldn't do it any more though.  It's best
  27. not to pet guide dogs when they're working, but if you were to come to
  28. my home, you'd be hard put to it to get rid of Sony.  He is such an
  29. attention sponge!  He is convinced that everyone comes to the house
  30. specifically to see him.  The trouble is, people reinforce that idea
  31. <grin>.

  33. They use shepherds, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and some schools use
  34. cross-breeds of some breeds.  They don't use smaller dogs though,
  35. because they have to be able to pull into the harness.  Also, the
  36. person must be able to reach the harness handle easily.  If they used
  37. smaller dogs, the harness handle would have to be longer than the dog
  38. <grin>!  I can just see it now ...

  40. I did hear of one person who taught his dog to carry her own little
  41. suitcase.  She must have made quite the entrance when she entered a
  42.                           hotel.

  44. I'm sure you will hear from others on this topic.  I think a lot of us
  45. like to talk about our dogs.  Well, except that in the public it
  46. sometimes gets irritating.
